Katrina of Petite Lamb
Wow! This is going to be an exciting week at ARTE. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Times Square on Friday, March 11. Plus, ARTE will also be at the List Fest on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 in the Festival Village.
This week I’d like to introduce a dressmaker who has been a member of ARTE for about one year, Katrina of Petite Lamb. Katrina comes from Melbourne, Australia and has lived in the UAE for 8 years. Katrina does crocheting and pottery, but it is her love of sewing that has brought her to ARTE.
Katrina has been sewing since she was a child. Her mother was a dressmaker and some of Katrina’s fondest memories were of her sitting under her mother’s sewing machine helping to put buttons on clothes. As she grew older, she moved on to hemming and finally got her own sewing machine – an old treadle machine. This was an old fashioned machine that did not use electricity but ran on foot power! Katrina loves sewing so much that she even made her own wedding dress – using a more modern machine, of course!
After Katrina had her daughter, she started noticing that there were not a lot of people out there making handmade wearable clothes for young girls. Katrina wanted to give her daughter clothes that were similar to what her mother had made for her. She started looking around for cotton fabrics sourced locally in the UAE. She wanted to make dresses that would breathe; fit comfortably and be environmentally friendly. Katrina’s dresses were so lovely that friends started asking her to make them and the rest is history!
Katrina’s dresses are bright and cheerful. Plus, they have unique patterns and prints that will delight any young girl. Katrina uses everything – nothing goes to waste. Every scrap of fabric is turned into hair fasteners, dolls, pencil cases and more.
Katrina loves special orders and is willing to work with her customers to design that perfect outfit for your special child. She can also do handmade embroidery names and can personalize gifts for anyone – newborns, babies or the young kids in your life! Here is an example of personalized aprons she made by hand:
For special orders, drop her an email at: firstname.lastname@example.org or visit her at ARTE.
When you come to ARTE this weekend, why not stop by Petite Lamb’s table and say hi to Katrina.
