This is our “meet a vendor’ series with a difference. Our Founding Members as those that have been with ARTE since the beginning. September 2005, ten years ago, ARTE started with about 30 vendors, of which at least 10 are still continuing to grace us with their presence and their amazing handmade arts & crafts regularly at the various markets.
Iraqi born Saad Al Jed has been a UAE resident for 15 years. Painting and sculpting since an early age, Saad started his technique of creative leather painting 12 years ago. Inspired by the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum Saad is also influenced by local architecture, with his favourite pieces created reflects Bastakia and Old Dubai.
The material Saad uses in non-animal, creative leather which he carves with sculpting tools. It is all sourced locally in the UAE. Being extremely prolific, Saad continuously creates new pieces and new designs. His future goals are to become and international, global brand.
Saad gets so much joy from creating his pieces by hand. He appreciates the ARTE markets, saying it is “so great, very important for me”. It is not only a place to receive interest in his work, but also a seal of approval from customers when they like the pieces. Saad also enjoys the community of artisans and the relationships cultivated during the last 10 years.
For Saad, ARTE is “bigger than just a market, it is a vision with ambition”. Visit his stand at ARTE this Friday, September 11th from 12 – 7pm, Times Square Center.
