Alexandra comes from Slovakia, lived in London and has now settled in Dubai for 4 years. You may call her Alex or Sandra, but it is her other nickname Zandra that is used to identify her magical little creations.
You may recognize her from one of our ARTE posters this month:
Crafting since childhood, Alex started with embroidery, knitting, friendship bracelets, drawing, sculpture…and once she moved to Dubai, more free time allowed her to start crafting full-time. Taught by her mother, learning knitting is a family tradition. These little animals knitted by Alex are her surrogate pets until she can fulfill her dream to move to a small farm and cuddle her real animals.
Alex’s interest in the fairy trees were sparked in a primary school class. She fondly remembers her special customers: “At one of the markets just before Christmas, one little girl who came back after seeing me at ARTE couple months earlier and just kept browsing through my trees over and over. Her mum told me she’s been talking about the fairy trees ever since they seen me the first time and in the end she secretly bought a tree for her little girl while she wasn’t looking, it was nice to think about how happy this little girl would be when she opens her present.”. It is no wonder Alex’s favourite movie is A Nightmare before Christmas.
Adding to her unique personality, Alex’s interests include: playing the violin (she used to be in a Folklore group in Slovakia); is a yoga enthusiast; is a gamer; participate in historical fencing; and has a pet called Frederick, a bearded dragon!.
Regretting not joining ARTE earlier, her greatest advice to all out there is to believe in yourself and in your product.
For now, Alex is knitting more toys, focusing on making more fairy dust pendants, and working on special new products over the summer break to surprise us all at the next ARTE markets. We are looking forward to seeing her new pieces.
You can find these magical little pieces at our next ARTE Makers Market this Friday, 26th June at Times Square Center.
