We love handmade. We are proud to make what we sell. This is the charm of ARTE- the love that goes into our handmade products that we and our vendors share with the UAE public and the wider world. And since it is the month to share the love, February, we are feeling gushy about our lovely market called ARTE.
It is no surprise that the definition of charm – being the power or quality of giving delight or arousing admiration– is so closely linked to the definition of ARTE:
We provide ‘handmade in the UAE’ arts and crafts exclusively.
Our vendors and their work are of a high level of quality and workmanship.
We aim to provide individual pieces and works of art, not mass produced items.
Materials may be sourced from abroad but the finished art and craft products must be made in the UAE.
It is these defining statements that separate ARTE from the rest of the markets available in the UAE at the moment, and adds to our individual charm. Take us up on our declaration by visiting our markets this February, starting with Friday 13th at Times Square Center. All the dates are provided here on our new posters:
Another definition of charm is of course, a small ornament worn on a necklace or bracelet, which brings me to introduce our mother & daughter vendor team Tania and Carla Nasr.
Lebanese duo Tania and Carla have been living in Dubai close to 14 years. Carla, a media advertising executive, is naturally inspired by all the fashion she finds in the glossy magazines she deals with in her day job. Starting Carlita’s Charms with her mom, Carla admits what inspires her the most is her mom: “she always has a thirst to try and create new things”. Their collection consists of handmade charm bracelets and fashion accessories such as broaches, watches and jewellery. They also crochet items such as mobile phone pouches and fashionable footwear.

Growing up, Carla was an avid collector of erasers in all shapes, sizes…and smells! This quirky collection was in fact the start of a much larger obsession with collecting beads and materials for her crafts. Her very particular and uncluttered method of creating is to unpack only the exact items she needs at the time for a specific project. Yet, as we all understand the creative process to be unpredictable, Carla makes quite a few trips back to her storage cupboard to collect more items (one piece at a time), leaving her sister to think she really is a crazy crafter! Surely that just adds to the charm?
You can find Carlita’s Charms at various ARTE markets and follow their Facebook page to see what this duo is up to next.
A special message to our vendors
To our vendors, we ask that you reciprocate the love and effort ARTE puts in to make the markets as successful as possible. Sign up and be part of this special venture! Every month should be a special month, a buzzing month, and we can only do that if you support and join us regularly.
We are fortunate to have Alex from Knitox, a regular vendor, whom take photos of everyone’s tables and products at each ARTE event at Times Square Center. These photos are placed in an album on our ARTE Facebook page. PLEASE TAG yourself or fellow vendors’ images to advertise and share your own products and ARTE across the Facebook universe.
