For Isalia, the concept of her mini-hats stems from mini-stories that she collects during her travels. Originally from Yemen, Isalia thrives on travelling to other countries, which she says, “Inspires me to start designing mini-hats from scratch. I trace the original idea of making hats while I was visiting a festival in Germany.”
Starting out with mini-hats, Isalia went on to make hair bands and accessories. Her collection sells like hot cakes and she loves making custom orders.
She shares with us the materials that she uses for her headwear collection, “The best thing about making hats and head accessories is that the items and materials are unlimited. I use different kind of fabrics, nets, feather flowers and even recycled materials such as plastic paper and wire. I take great delight in making mini-hats because the shape and size of each piece varies and depends on how I so wish at that time. I cut the hats in different angles and sizes and that is what I usually do when I work so they always look different.”
Isalia enjoys the market vibes of ARTE. She feels that this is the place for craftspeople to stay motivated in honing their handcrafting skills. She loves creating custom orders. One such order was for a wedding party in Athens. She made a total of twenty hats (see below) and one hairband for the bride. She also makes fun hats for men!
