These days people want to be seen as being environmentally friendly. The move from using paraffin based candles towards using eco-friendly candles is big. People are aware of the carcinogenic effects of using such candles and they are always on the look out for safe candles to light up their homes and hearts. And that’s why Bhawna Sehra, Founder of Palm Lights, decided to try her hand at making her own candles. She says, “After searching relentlessly for candles that I could use at home without the emission of any chemicals, I came across palm wax, a vegan wax product which is safe to use. It inspired me to try my hand at pouring candles at home. I managed to create a superior and safe alternative and it was something I wanted to share with similar minded health conscious people. Before I knew, it transitioned into a small venture where I could personally monitor the raw materials, production and packing process. Thus, Palm Lights was born!”
The inspiration behind her products is very simple. She wants to cater to the needs of conscious customers that are environmentally friendly and want to buy only health friendly products. “It’s high time we stopped polluting our planet otherwise it will be too late and one day, we won’t be able to call it home anymore.”
Palm Lights turns one this month and what a journey it has been. Bhawna has been perfecting the technique of pouring candles for more than two years now. The materials that she uses in her work, is pretty straightforward. RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certified palm wax, which is sourced from the palm tree, 100% pure aromatherapy grade essential oils, aniline free dyes, cotton and wooden wicks.
Bhawna shares with us one item that she enjoys making. This is what she says. “I love pouring candles in molds to create pillar candles. It takes one day to make a batch of candles but it’s worth the wait. It is a magical moment when you demold to find that the molten wax has transformed into a divinely fragrant candle with a unique crystalline finish. No two palm lights candles are ever the same and this little moment of discovery never ceases to amaze me.” She does enjoy making customized candles because they make great gifts. To personalise them she uses various techniques like screen printing, laser engraving, sandblasting, sticker labels on container candles.
To be part of ARTE is to be in a safe sanctuary, Bhawna says. “Here is the opportunity to introduce and sell your products. It is a hassle-free process of participating in ARTE. We, handcrafters, focus on creating our craft. The rest of the souq organisation is done by ARTE, thus making it so easy for us to just show up with our work and sell! The combined creative energy of the ARTE markets is contagious. It inspires me to bring something new and special to the table every time I participate.”
Here is an example of a typical Palm Light candle. These ones come in Trapezoid shaped glass jars. Bhawna explains why they give customers an excellent value on investment:
“- All jars come with an airtight lid, which helps to keep the fragrance fresh till the very end.
– The jars are transparent to amplify the beauty of unique crystalline finish.
– The unique trapezoid shape of the jar releases the perfect amount of essential oils from the melt pool and fill your surroundings with a divine fragrance
– With a burn time of 50+ hours, you are able to enjoy the candle for a long time
– Once the wax is over, you can return the glass jar to us for a refill at a discounted rate
– you can follow the guidelines on our website to clean the jars and re-use it at home. All the jars are of food-grade quality.”
Palm Lights participates in both the ARTE souqs at DFCM and TSC.
