Divinelicious’ mission is simple. It promises you the Handmade Way to Cloud 9. It displays divine creations by Diego San steeped in the love for ancient civilizations and history.
Divinelicious’ work is Bohemian themed. Her designs are a combination of vintage, antique and Bohemian styles. She says, “I love the colour combinations of antique jewelry. Antique jewelry evokes that feeling of mystery while the Bohemian style has a happy-go-lucky image, both of which I am attracted to. Travelling and reading history books have definitely influenced my style of work.
From the Philippines, the jewelry designer is a graduate in Mass Communications. Yet, the call to explore designs and art from ancient times is very distinct in her life. “I read about ancient Egypt since I was young. I got fascinated with the pyramids and Egyptian art. As I grew older, I read more about ancient art works of the Mayan, African and Chinese tribes. I always wondered how they made beautiful pieces with their own hands and with very limited machinery. Whenever I design my jewelry, I feel like I am paying respect to these ancient Artisans for their greatness. My jewelry is a way of appreciating what they have contributed to the world.”
Divinelicious jewelry is made from semi-precious stones, crystals and glass using nylon string to thread them together. The type of stones and the colours are important to her. When she started exhibiting her work at ARTE, she used to make different handcrafts such as hand sewn projects, paper crafts, mixed media and jewelry designing. After 2 ½ years, she found that she enjoyed designing jewelry pieces the most. This is how Divinelicious has evolved. “The reason I started to craft again was out of boredom. I had stopped crafting when I got busy with college and education.”
Not longer after, Divinelicious started taking part in ARTE in 2010. She was so excited to take part, as she never knew that the notion of ‘artisans’ right here in Dubai existed. “It feels good to know that I am not alone,” she says, “I found a place where I can express myself through art and show my work to the public. When I display at ARTE, a stranger’s appreciation is the priceless reward.”
You will find Divinelicious at ARTE markets in DFCM and TSC. “ARTE brings all cultures together as one body of art and craft and I love being part of it.”
