Famous American singer Nancy Sinatra may croon away that ‘These Boots are made for walking,’ but in Sarah Bhatti’s world, these shoes are made for painting. She has found her metier in painting on canvas shoes with fabric and acyrlic paints. The best part of it is that the shoes are 100% washable.
Sarah is a great believer in custom made work, where she can combine her love for art and fashion. “Since the beginning, I have always enjoyed painting and sketching, but I wanted to work in a different and unique medium. I came across the idea of making custom painted shoes. What attracted me to it was how detailed the designs were and so I decided to make my own (and first!) pair of custom shoes. Much to my surprise, everyone else loved it and orders started to come in.”
Originally from Pakistan, but raised in Dubai, Sarah finds her inspiration through nature and people around her, as well as famous artists like Van Gogh. “We shouldn’t be restricted in how we express art,” she says. “That’s why like many artists I have first tried a lot of handcrafted techniques before I set my heart on custom made shoes.”
