The beauty about Arte is that you get to see jewelry artisans that excel in a particular jewelry technique and specialise in that technique. One such jewelry artisan is Romanian Emanuela Balc, Owner of Coloured Dream accessories. She started making jewelry 1 1/2 years ago.
She says, “My favourite technique is wire wrapping because wire is so versatile. It can be blunt, heavy and dull but at the same time, once it starts to get shape it can be delicate, it can emphasize the shape of a stone or it can tell a story through small details.”
Emmanuela derives her inspirations from various elements; from the shape and colour of a stone, to the details that she may see in a particular piece of clothing, nature, or historical artifacts. She loves learning new techniques and uses them in the jewelry piece that she is envisioning.
Why wire? She says,” I haven’t tried different crafts. I started with wire and now I’m hooked to it. I do play with clay, whenever I need a break from working with wire (especially when the wire takes its toll on my wrists and fingers). But gradually, I come back to wire, my first love.”
